What is switch?
Switch is a product designed for outdoor activities. it is an easy to use combination of a knife, a hammer and an axe. The idea came from my experiences as a scout leader. on campsites, you often need multiple copies of each tool. This leads to having alot of cargo you need to bring to the campsite and take care of. I figured that making a functional amalgam of all these tools would decrease the amount of cargo, increase campsite efficiency and overall improve the camping experience. Here is some of the concept work i did to bring this idea to life.
Iterations
I went through multiple different designs for how to make the head be used as all three tools. eventually i stuck with using two dovetail joints to allow the head to be removed and reattached.
Importantly i want to emphasize that i didn't want this to become another swiss army knife, where each tool is much less usable then it would me on its own. This is why i only wanted to combine three tools. the more you try to cram into a combination tool, the less functional it gets. the average swiss army knife has upward of 15 tools when you're only ever really going to use three or four.
CAD
this project also helped me learn cad in the form of Fusion360. i used this to make a solid 3D model of the proposed design.
